October 10-SILENT SUNDAYS-Over the last couple of weeks much attention, both locally and nationally, has been given to "Silent Sunday Soccer" efforts. Several local clubs and others across the state and country have earmarked a single game, day or weekend to prohibit spectators and even coaches from being heard while in attendance at youth games. While STAR SC respects the efforts of these groups, it seems sad that supporters need to be SILENCED in order to achieve a good playing environment for our kids. It also seems counter intuitive to promote one day or event for positive behavior.
STAR SC will continue to support POSITIVE behavior from our coaches, parents and fans EVERYDAY. We ask that everyone on the sidelines recognize that the kids are playing in a game, not a battle, and that the longer they remain playing and enjoying the game, the stronger the chances are that they will get better at it. We encourage MORE cheering and congratulations...with LESS screaming of "KICK IT," "SHOOT IT," and “Why aren’t YOU trying harder,” and NO coaching from the wrong side of the field. Not all of our parents get it right or even understand, so I call on each of us to help them out by role modeling and encouraging the right approach. The upcoming Forest Park Invitational is a great event for ALL club members to show just how much FUN soccer can be! I look forward to hearing you out there.
