September 2, 2014- One of the unwritten goals of STAR SC is to prepare our players to be contributing members of their high school soccer programs. The club works with both its players and coaches to ensure that our athletes are receiving the coaching and training necessary to be ready to compete at the "next" level. This year our U14 age group exemplified the success that STAR SC has had in providing the necessary guidance for success.
This past Spring season the club fielded two U14 teams, one boys and one girls. Both teams had fairly competitive seasons, holding their own in league and in tournament play. Players for both teams continued to work on developing the core foundations that had been a part of their club instruction throughout their youth; comfort with the ball, sound technique in passing, dribbling and shooting, increasing awareness and vision and improving speed of play and decision making. All of these efforts really paid off when it came time for high school tryouts.
Of the 29 participants on the two teams, 22 made a team! Several even made VARSITY and a couple are STARTING on VARSITY! That is a remarkable testimony to what STAR SC can produce. We are proud of each one of them and look forward to more improvements and great FUN next Spring. Best of luck to Finneytown, Landmark, LaSalle, McAuley, Mercy, Moeller, Monroe, Mount Notre Dame, Purcell, Roger Bacon, St Xavier and Wyoming and ALL their STAR players!
