Referees Needed!

Referees Needed!

Hopefully you've taken the bait and clicked to read more information about becoming a referee.  As a player on the pitch or a parent on the touch line, you are probably starting to see the need for more referees.  Many games are taking place with two referees and one club linesman, and the near future may see just one referee per game with two club linesmen.

In an effort to avoid this outcome, we are appealing to you to consider becoming a referee.  What are the requirements to become a ref?

  • You must be at least 14 years of age (turning 14 in the calendar year that you become a referee)
  • Visit the Ohio South State Referee Committee website for a full checklist of information
  • You need to take the referee instructional courses
    • Right now this is all online through the US Soccer Learning Center - if you already have an account for coaching, you should be able to navigate to the referee instructional section and take the Grassroots courses
    • You will need a current SafeSport certification uploaded to your OSSRC account (if over the age of 18)
  • You need a current concussion certification from NFHS uploaded to your OSSRC account

For more comprehensive information, please follow this link to the Ohio Soccer Association website.

Once these steps have been completed, you are able to start picking up assignments and refereeing games!  If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact our club referee assignor Randy Clark by email.
